Build your own Android app for your TGGroups directory

An app on your visitors' phones brings them back without a search. The TGGroups Android app is a complete Android Studio project in Kotlin and Jetpack Compose. It reads links, categories and link types from your website's Public API, so everything you manage in the admin panel appears in the app without a new release.

What the app includes

• Home with link types, featured links, trending and newest links.
• Browse with search, type chips, sort and filters for category, country and language.
• Link pages with the type's own button: Join group, Open channel, Start bot, Add stickers.
• Saved links that work offline, a submit screen, light and dark themes.

Connect it to your website

1. Install the Public API extension and create a key under Directory › API Keys. Tick "May submit links" if the app should have the Submit screen.
2. Raise the requests per minute for the key — every phone uses the same key.
3. Open the project in Android Studio and set TGGROUPS_BASE_URL, TGGROUPS_API_KEY and TGGROUPS_APP_NAME in gradle.properties.
4. Change applicationId to your own package name, replace the icon and build a signed bundle.

Version 1.1 of the app

The app now follows redirects to https:// and to www by itself, so it keeps working when you switch on Force HTTPS in TGGroups 1.2. It never sends your API key from a secure address back to plain http://.
